Overview

WHAT THE STANDARD COVERS. We have the sample extract of ISO 15630-2:2019 (third edition) — from the cover to 7.1.2 (page 6). Scope (clause 1): chemical and mechanical test methods and methods for measuring the geometrical characteristics of welded fabric and lattice girders for the reinforcement of concrete (in some countries "welded wire reinforcement"); for tests not specified in this part — e.g. the bend test, rib or indentation geometry, mass per metre — ISO 15630-1 applies; the standard does not cover sampling conditions (they are in the product standards), and the options for agreement between the parties are collected in Annex A. Foreword: the third edition replaced ISO 15630-2:2010 as a technical revision — lattice girders were added to the title, the introduction, clauses 1, 2, 4, subclause 5.3, the title of clause 8, subclauses 8.3, 8.4.5, 8.4.6 were changed, clauses 7 and 10 were divided into fabric and girders, clause 11 with "specialized" tests was added, and dated references were replaced by undated ones. Introduction: the ISO 15630 series is meant to gather all test methods for reinforcing and prestressing steels in one place; clauses 5–10 are standard tests, clause 11 — specialized ones, used only when required by the product standard.

GENERAL PROVISIONS AND TENSILE TEST (clauses 4–5). Test pieces are taken from the fabric or girder in the as-delivered condition unless agreed otherwise; a curved test piece is straightened before testing with a minimum of plastic deformation, and the method of straightening (manual, machine) is stated in the report. For the tensile test, the tensile test at low temperature, the fatigue test and the cyclic test the test piece may be artificially aged if the product standard requires it; if the standard does not give the conditions, heating to 100 °C, holding at this temperature (± 10 °C) for 60–75 min and cooling in still air is recommended (a heating time of at least 40 min to reach 100 °C may be assumed); the ageing conditions are stated in the report. The test piece must have at least one welded intersection in the free length; cross wires and the other wire of a twin pair are cut off without damaging the tested wire and the weld. Tensile test according to ISO 6892-1 on a machine of at least class 1 (ISO 7500-1); an extensometer of class 1 for Rp0,2, class 2 is sufficient for Agt, and for Agt a gauge length of at least 100 mm, stated in the report. For the manual determination of Agt the marks are spaced 20, 10 or 5 mm, depending on the diameter. When the straight portion of the diagram is short, Rp0,2 is determined according to ISO 6892-1 or from the straight line through the points 0,2Fm and 0,5Fm (in case of dispute — the latter; Fm may be the force corresponding to the nominal strength of the product standard); the test may be considered invalid if the slope of this line differs from the theoretical modulus of elasticity by more than 10 %. Tensile properties (ReH or Rp0,2, Rm) are calculated on the nominal cross-section; fracture in the grips or closer than 20 mm or d to the grips (whichever is greater) may invalidate the test. The gauge length for elongations shall include at least one intersection, but the requirements on the distances r1 and r2 take priority; A — on a gauge length of 5d, in case of dispute determined manually. Agt is determined with an extensometer (read before the force has dropped by more than 0.2 % from its maximum; note: an extensometer gives on average a lower Agt than the manual method) or manually after fracture from the formula Agt = Ar + Rm/2000 (Ar — uniform elongation after fracture, measured on the longer part over a gauge length of 100 mm, at least 50 mm or 2d from the fracture and preferably including an intersection; the measurement is invalid if r1 < 20 mm or d); in case of dispute the manual method applies.

BEND TEST AT THE INTERSECTION AND SHEAR TEST (clauses 6–7.1.2). The larger wire of fabric with single wires, or one wire of a twin pair, is bent; a bending device according to Figure 2 or supports with a mandrel (e.g. ISO 7438); temperature 10–35 °C unless agreed otherwise (at low temperature a deviation of ± 2 °C, immersion for at least 10 min in liquid or 30 min in gas, bending within 5 s of removal). The weld must lie in the centre of the bend, in the tension zone; the angle of bend γ and the mandrel diameter D are given by the product standard. Assessment according to the product standard, and if there is none — the absence of cracks visible to normal or corrected vision means the test piece has passed; a superficial ductile tear at the base of the ribs, no deeper than it is wide, is not a failure. Weld shear of fabric (Fs): the pulling wire is the larger one or one of a twin pair; a test piece previously tensile-tested may be used for the shear test if the necking at the fracture is away from the weld; a testing machine of class 1 or better; a holder of type a (cross wire simply supported on a smooth plate with a slot), b (additionally the tail of the pulling wire supported, 30–50 mm from the support surface, without initial compression) or c (additionally the cross wire clamped in jaws); in case of dispute — type c, unless the product standard specifies otherwise; the type of holder is stated in the report.

STATUS (state of the cards on 30 September 2026). The cards of PN-EN ISO 15630-2:2019-04 in both versions have no "Withdrawn" header — the standard is CURRENT. English version: published 19-04-2019, 38 pages, price group R; Polish version: published 03-08-2020, 34 pages, price group Q; both — Metallurgy Sector, KT 123 for Testing of Metal Properties, ICS 77.140.15, "Introduces: EN ISO 15630-2:2019 [IDT], ISO 15630-2:2019 [IDT]", "Replaces: PN-EN ISO 15630-2:2011" (Polish and English versions). Only the card of the English version has, in the fields "Corrections and errata" and "Additional elements", the national correction PN-EN ISO 15630-2:2019-04/Ap1:2020-05E and the annotation "Title changed by the correction". The content of this correction (two pages, approved by the President of PKN on 25.05.2020, file downloaded from the card on 30 September 2026): "On the national title page the title of the standard is changed as follows" — from "Part 2: Zgrzewane siatki i kratownice" to "Part 2: Zgrzewane siatki i dźwigary kratowe" (two Polish renderings of "welded fabric and lattice girders"); the correction does not change the content of the tests. The "Scope" field of both cards is a Polish translation of clause 1. The PKN search for "PN-EN ISO 15630" (30 September 2026) shows the label "Withdrawn and replaced by" at the editions of part 2 from 2002, 2004 and 2011, no label at part 1 in the 2019-04 edition, and "Withdrawn and replaced by PN-EN ISO 15630-3:2025-12" at part 3 in the 2019-04 edition (labels from the list of results; we did not read the cards of parts 1 and 3).

HOW MANY LABORATORIES AND IN WHAT FORM (copy of the accreditation-scope database, data loaded up to 17 September 2026, read on 30 September 2026). In the current PCA documents number 15630-2 appears in 29 entries at 10 laboratories; the copy of the database has 42 records, because the entry of AB 039 and the entries of AB 053 (with their English versions) are split in it into several records, and AB 1413 has a duplicated notation. The 2019-04 edition is written by 7 laboratories (AB 053, AB 054 — in two of its three entries as "PN-EN lSO 15630-2:2019-04E" with a lower-case l, AB 193, AB 372, AB 1413, AB 1562, AB 1869), AB 024 — "PN-EN ISO 15630-2:2019" with points 5, 6 and 7; AB 1413 keeps the withdrawn 2011 edition alongside; without a year — AB 023 and AB 039. The "Laboratories" tab looks for notations that BEGIN with "PN-EN ISO 15630-2" and will show all 10 laboratories — checked with the tab's query on the production server labcoda.pl on 30 September 2026: 10. Current scopes on the PCA website (read on 30 September 2026, issues from 16.07.2025 to 22.09.2026): all entries are in the issues in force and none is suspended (the asterisk at AB 053 marks a test on the basis of which the laboratory gives opinions and interpretations).

WHERE A SEEMINGLY CORRECT RESULT IS EASY TO GET. First — Agt: according to the standard an extensometer gives on average a lower Agt than the manual method, and in case of dispute the manual method decides (Agt = Ar + Rm/2000 with a 100 mm gauge length); when comparing results, check the method. Second — position of the fracture and gauge length: a fracture closer than 20 mm or d to the grips may invalidate the test, and the elongation gauge length shall include an intersection, but yields to the requirements on r1 and r2. Third — shear: the weld shear force depends on the type of holder (a, b, c); results from different types are not comparable, and in case of dispute type c applies. Fourth — bending: the angle and mandrel diameter are given by the product standard, so "no cracks" without these parameters says nothing; this part describes bending with an intersection, while bending of the bar itself is in part 1. Fifth — ageing: an aged test piece (100 °C, 60–75 min) and a non-aged one give different results; the ageing conditions must be in the report.

WHAT WE DO NOT GIVE. The extract ends at 7.1.2: we do not give Figures 2 and 3, the shear test procedure for fabric (7.1.3), the tests of lattice girders (7.2), the fatigue test (clause 8, including the force range, frequency and validity criteria), chemical analysis (clause 9), geometry measurements (clause 10), specialized tests — tensile tests at elevated and low temperature and the cyclic test (clause 11), the test report (clause 12) or the options of Annex A.

Method principle

Lengths of wire with at least one welded intersection are cut from the fabric or girder in the as-delivered condition and tested: in the tensile test according to ISO 6892-1 (tensile properties on the nominal cross-section, Agt with an extensometer or manually from the formula Agt = Ar + Rm/2000), in the bend test with the intersection in the middle of the bend (angle and mandrel from the product standard) and in the weld shear test, in which the pulling wire is pulled out of the intersection supported in a holder of type a, b or c. We DO NOT GIVE the shear procedure, the fatigue test or the geometry measurements — the extract ends at 7.1.2.

Frequently asked questions

Which standard describes this test?

The test is performed according to PN-EN ISO 15630-2:2019-04 (wersja polska i angielska; EN ISO 15630-2:2019, ISO 15630-2:2019 IDT) — “Steel for the reinforcement and prestressing of concrete — Test methods — Part 2: Welded fabric and lattice girders”.

How does this method work?

Lengths of wire with at least one welded intersection are cut from the fabric or girder in the as-delivered condition and tested: in the tensile test according to ISO 6892-1 (tensile properties on the nominal cross-section, Agt with an extensometer or manually from the formula Agt = Ar + Rm/2000), in the bend test with the intersection in the middle of the bend (angle and mandrel from the product standard) and in the weld shear test, in which the pulling wire is pulled out of the intersection supported in a holder of type a, b or c. We DO NOT GIVE the shear procedure, the fatigue test or the geometry measurements — the extract ends at 7.

What is the measuring range and accuracy?

STATUS (state of the cards on 30 September 2026): PN-EN ISO 15630-2:2019-04 current (Polish and English versions); national correction Ap1:2020-05 at the English version; PN-EN ISO 15630-2:2011 withdrawn; Edition (from the PKN card): PN-EN ISO 15630-2:2019-04; English version — published 19-04-2019, 38 pages; Polish version — 03-08-2020, 34 pages; KT 123 for Testing of Metal Properties, ICS 77.140.15; introduces EN ISO 15630-2:2019 and ISO 15630-2:2019 [IDT]; Test piece (clause 4): as delivered; at least one welded intersection in the free length; ageing when the product standard requires it (recommended 100 °C ± 10 °C, 60–75 min); Tensile test (clause 5): ISO 6892-1, machine of class ≥ 1; Agt: extensometer (gauge length ≥ 100 mm) or manually Agt = Ar + Rm/2000; A on 5d; in case of dispute the manual method.
