🏗️ Windows and external pedestrian doorsets — product standard: performance characteristics (among others resistance to wind load, watertightness, air permeability, acoustic performance, thermal transmittance, load-bearing capacity of safety devices, height and width, ability to release), classification and evaluation of conformity (initial type testing, factory production control); PN-EN 14351-1
In short
Windows (including roof windows and door height windows), external pedestrian doorsets and screens: the product standard gives material-independent performance characteristics — except resistance to fire and smoke control, which are covered by EN 16034 — their classification, evaluation of conformity and marking. The test is performed according to PN-EN 14351-1+A2:2016-10 (English version; implements EN 14351-1:2006+A2:2016 [IDT]); STATUS (PKN card as of 07.11.2026): PN-EN 14351-1+A2:2016-10 current (English version only); replaced PN-EN 14351-1+A1:2010 (Polish version, withdrawn 25-10-2016). The procedure comprises 5 steps; it is used for: Windows (including roof windows and door height windows), external pedestrian doorsets and screens, without fire resistance and smoke control (EN 14351-1:2006+A2:2016, clause 1), Declaration of performance and marking of construction products — harmonised standard under Regulation (EU) No 305/2011, Together with EN 16034 when the product is to have fire resistance or smoke control; internal doorsets — Part 2 (PN-EN 14351-2).

Overview
WHAT THE STANDARD COVERS. According to clause 1 of EN 14351-1:2006+A2:2016, the standard identifies material-independent performance characteristics — except resistance to fire and smoke control characteristics — applicable to windows (including roof windows, roof windows with external fire resistance and door height windows), external pedestrian doorsets (and their assemblies, including unframed glass doorsets and escape route doorsets) and screens. Fire resisting and smoke control characteristics of pedestrian doorsets and openable windows are covered by EN 16034. The standard applies to: a) fixed windows, manually or power operated windows and door height windows, and screens for vertical wall apertures, and roof windows for installation in roofs — with hardware, weather stripping, glazing, with or without shutters, shutter boxes and blinds, fully or partially glazed, fixed, partly fixed or openable; b) manually operated external pedestrian doorsets with flush or panelled leaves, with fanlights and adjacent parts within a single frame. The windows covered are not assessed regarding their ability to release (to open), and the products are not assessed for structural applications. The standard does not apply to rooflights according to EN 1873 and EN 14963, curtain walling according to EN 13830, industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates according to EN 13241, internal pedestrian doorsets according to prEN 14351-2, revolving doorsets, power operated pedestrian doorsets according to EN 16361 or windows forming part of internal partitions.
ACCORDING TO THE TEXT OF EN 14351-1:2006+A2:2016 — EDITION, REFERENCES, TERMS (foreword, introduction, clauses 2–3). The standard was prepared by committee CEN/TC 33 (Doors, windows, shutters, building hardware and curtain walling), secretariat AFNOR; the date for national implementation was set at March 2017 at the latest, and for withdrawal of conflicting standards at June 2018. The document includes Amendment 1 approved on 31.01.2010 and Amendment 2 approved on 11.07.2016 and supersedes EN 14351-1:2006+A1:2010; Amendment 2 mainly concerns the title and the scope — “according to the EC’s request” and the decisions of CEN/TC 33. According to the introduction, Amendment 1 added details on evaluation of conformity (among others cascading initial type testing) and excluded power operated pedestrian doors from the scope. The standard was prepared under a mandate given by the European Commission and EFTA; the relationship with EU directives is described in informative Annexes ZA–ZD. Clause 2 divides the references into classification standards (2.1, among others EN 12207:1999 air permeability, EN 12208 watertightness, EN 12210 resistance to wind load, EN 13049 soft and heavy body impact), test and calculation standards (2.2, among others EN 1026, EN 1027, EN 12211, EN 948, EN 14609, EN 1125, EN 179, EN ISO 717-1, EN 12354-3, EN ISO 10077-1:2006, EN ISO 10077-2, EN ISO 12567-1, EN ISO 12567-2) and other standards (2.3); for dated references only the edition cited applies, for undated ones — the latest edition with amendments. Terms (clause 3, besides the terms of EN 12519:2004): external pedestrian doorset — separating the internal climate from the external climate, intended mainly for the passage of pedestrians; overall area — frame width × frame height; screen — two or more windows or external doorsets in one plane; similar design — a change of components, material, profile section or method of assembly that does not change the class or declared value of a characteristic (note: a change may improve some characteristics and worsen others — Annex A).

Ability to release of doors — 2: AB 014 (with PN-EN 1125, PN-EN 16034, PN-EN 14351-2 and document RS-25/TP-20), AB 1596 (in-house procedure R9-P22-LBiW, document NB-CPD/SG06/11/0084, p. 4.10 of both parts of the standard). Acoustic performance of windows — 2, both by calculation: AB 1054 (windows and door height windows), AB 661 (windows, Annex B and in-house procedure LTB PL131). Resistance to soft and heavy body impact — 1: AB 014 (windows and doors, with PN-EN 13049 and PN-EN 14351-2).
WHERE A SEEMINGLY CORRECT RESULT IS EASY TO GET. Preparation: this is a product standard, not a test method — a characteristic is determined according to a test or calculation standard from clause 2 or an annex of the standard; the notation “according to PN-EN 14351-1” without that standard does not say how it was measured (some items in the scopes cite the product standard alone). Internal doorsets do not belong to this part (clause 1 refers to prEN 14351-2; in the scopes — PN-EN 14351-2:2018-12, PKN card: current, English version, read 07.11.2026). The windows covered are not assessed regarding the ability to release (clause 1) — in the scopes this characteristic appears only with doors; the Commission communication excludes the sentence about the “ability to open” in clause 1 from the scope of the reference — what this means for the assessment of windows we have not established. Measurement and calculation: EN ISO 10077-1 is referenced with a date (2006) — for a dated reference only that edition applies; AB 1596 has in the same item PN-EN ISO 10077-1:2007 (implements EN ISO 10077-1:2006; PKN card: withdrawn 04-10-2017) and PN-EN ISO 10077-1:2017-10 (PKN card: current) — the result must say which edition was used for the calculation. Thermal transmittance measured in a hot box (PN-EN ISO 12567-1, -2) and calculated (PN-EN ISO 10077-1, -2) are two routes to the same characteristic — a result without the name of the route cannot be compared with a declaration. The acoustic performance of windows determined by calculation (AB 1054, AB 661) is based on Annex B — for single windows with insulating glass units on tabulated values, with conditions of use (B.3.2) and range of application (B.4); we have not read these conditions, and a result calculated outside them looks like any other.
WHAT WE DO NOT GIVE. The fragment of EN 14351-1:2006+A2:2016 we read (iTeh sample, SIST EN 14351-1:2006+A2:2016, English version) covers the title page, table of contents, European foreword, introduction and clauses 1–3. We do not give the requirements and the manner of declaring the characteristics of clause 4, the classes of Tables 1 and 2, the rules of evaluation of conformity of clause 7, or the content of Annexes A–J and ZA–ZD (including the systems of attestation of conformity assigned to the products) — we have not read these parts. We have not checked the statuses of PN-EN 948, PN-EN 14609, PN-EN 13049, PN-EN 1125, PN-EN 16034, PN-EN 16361, PN-EN ISO 10077-2, PN-EN ISO 12567-1, PN-EN ISO 12567-2, PN-EN ISO 8990, PN-EN ISO 10211 and PN-EN 13241 on the PKN cards. We have not established whether the reference to the standard in the Official Journal of the EU was changed after the communication of 9.3.2018.
Method principle
A product — window, roof window, external pedestrian doorset or screen — is described by the performance characteristics of clause 4 (among others wind load, watertightness, air permeability, acoustic performance, thermal transmittance, load-bearing capacity of safety devices, ability to release of doors); each is determined according to a test or calculation standard referenced in clause 2 or according to a normative annex, classified according to clause 5 and confirmed in the evaluation of conformity — initial type testing and factory production control (EN 14351-1:2006+A2:2016, clauses 1–3; clauses 4–8 and the annexes — only titles in the fragment read).
