⚡ Emission of radio disturbances (terminal voltage, disturbance power, radiated field, clicks) from household appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus — PN-EN IEC 55014-1
In short
An EMC product standard (CISPR 14-1): requirements for the emission of radio-frequency disturbances from 9 kHz to 400 GHz from household appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus, excluding equipment covered by other CISPR standards (lighting, information technology and multimedia equipment, equipment within CISPR 11). The test is performed according to PN-EN IEC 55014-1:2021-08 (wersja angielska; wprowadza EN IEC 55014-1:2021 [IDT] i CISPR 14-1:2020 [IDT]); Frequency range (from the card): 9 kHz – 400 GHz. The procedure comprises 4 steps; it is used for: Emission tests of household appliances, electric tools, electric toys, chargers and power supplies — in the scopes of 15 laboratories, Assessing products for conformity with EMC requirements — measurements of conducted disturbances, disturbance power and radiated disturbances.

Overview
WHAT THE STANDARD COVERS. The beginning of the "Scope" field of the PKN catalogue card, verbatim: "This part of CISPR 14 specifies requirements that apply to the emission of radio-frequency disturbances in the frequency range 9 kHz to 400 GHz from appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus as defined below, whether powered by AC or DC (including a battery)." (our translation of the Polish card). The card then lists (we summarize, because the field is long): household and similar appliances — also in shops, offices, farms, hotels, for induction cooking and air conditioning; electric tools; similar apparatus — among others external power controllers with semiconductor devices, motor-driven electromedical apparatus, electric and electronic toys, personal care appliances, vending machines, battery chargers and external power supplies for these products, electric fence energizers; also separate parts (motors, relays) — without emission requirements unless the standard states otherwise — and products with a radio function and apparatus using IPT. Excluded are among others: apparatus for which the emission requirements are formulated in other CISPR standards (lighting — CISPR 15; information technology, audio and video equipment — CISPR 32; equipment within CISPR 11, e.g. microwave ovens), radio transmitters, arc welding equipment, equipment only for vehicles, ships and aircraft, equipment used exclusively in industrial environments and the effects of electromagnetic phenomena on safety. The requirements do not apply to intended transmissions of a radio transmitter. The card gives neither measurement methods nor limits.
STATUS (state of the cards on 29 September 2026). The card of PN-EN IEC 55014-1:2021-08 (English version) has no withdrawal note — the standard is CURRENT. Published 09-08-2021, 122 pages, PKN technical committee KT 104 (Electromagnetic Compatibility), ICS 33.100.10; "Introduces: EN IEC 55014-1:2021 [IDT], CISPR 14-1:2020 [IDT]"; "Supersedes: PN-EN 55014-1:2017-06 - English version, PN-EN 55014-1:2017-06/A11:2020-07 - English version". Card of PN-EN 55014-1:2017-06: "Wycofana" (withdrawn), date of withdrawal 09-08-2021, "Superseded by: PN-EN IEC 55014-1:2021-08"; it also has the field "Dyrektywa: 2014/30/EU" (Directive — electromagnetic compatibility). The card of the 2021-08 edition has no such field — whether and since when this edition is a standard harmonised under that directive we have not checked. WHAT WE DO NOT GIVE. We did not have the text of the standard — PKN sells it (122 pages). We do not give the limits, the operating conditions of the equipment under test, the measurement set-ups, the rules for evaluating clicks or the requirements for multifunction equipment (clause 6.5, to which the card refers).
Method principle
According to the card, the standard specifies requirements for the emission of radio-frequency disturbances (9 kHz – 400 GHz) from household appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus. In accreditation scopes laboratories use it to measure the disturbance voltage at the mains terminals and telecommunication ports, the disturbance power, the field strength of radiated disturbances and clicks, usually together with the basic standards of the PN-EN 55016 series. We DO NOT GIVE the limits and measurement conditions — we did not have the text of the standard.
Applications
- Emission tests of household appliances, electric tools, electric toys, chargers and power supplies — in the scopes of 15 laboratories
- Assessing products for conformity with EMC requirements — measurements of conducted disturbances, disturbance power and radiated disturbances
