Overview
WHAT THE STANDARD COVERS. Scope from the PKN card, in full: "This standard gives a method for determining 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (CAS No.: 80-05-7) in workplace air using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with spectrophotometric or fluorescence detection. The method is used in the control of sanitary and hygienic conditions. The lowest concentration of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane that can be determined under the air sampling and determination conditions described in the standard is 0.107 mg/m³ (for an air sample volume of 840 l)." (our translation). The card does not give the sampling method, the fraction, the solvent or the wavelength. We did not have the text of the standard (8 pages). The CIOP method index for 2000–2017 lists "2,2-bis(4-Hydroksyfenylo)propan – nr 4(38) 2003" and "2,2-bis(4-Hydroksyfenylo)propan – frakcja wdychalna – nr 3(93) 2017"; we have not read the articles and give nothing from them.
NDS VALUES (list in the annex to the regulation of 26 March 2026, Journal of Laws 2026 item 447). Item 56: "2,2-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane – bisphenol A [80-05-7]" — NDS 2 mg/m³ with the note "inhalable fraction" and footnote 6 ("Inhalable fraction – the aerosol fraction, determined in accordance with PN-EN 481, entering through the nose and mouth, which poses a health hazard after deposition in the respiratory tract.", our translation), no NDSCh and no "skin" notation; the substance is not covered by the transitional provisions of § 2. The lowest determinable concentration according to the card, 0.107 mg/m³, is about 5 % of the NDS.
STATUS (card as of 05.10.2026). The card of PN-Z-04568:2025-06 (Polish version) has neither the heading "Withdrawn" nor a "Withdrawal date" line: publication 23-06-2025, 8 pages, price group D, Health, Environment and Medicine Sector, KT 159 Chemical and Dust Hazards in the Working Environment, ICS 13.040.30; the card has no "Replaces" field. PKN search (05.10.2026): the term "PN-Z-04568" returns only this standard; the systematic term "hydroksyfenylo" — this standard and the withdrawn PN-Z-04382:2009 on the same substance at workplaces (HPLC); the term "bisfenolu" — only standards on water and toys. The card of PN-Z-04382:2009 ("… Determination of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane at workplaces by high-performance liquid chromatography") has the heading "Withdrawn" without naming a replacing standard: publication 02-06-2009, withdrawal date 27-10-2025 (four months after the publication of PN-Z-04568:2025-06), 6 pages, KT 159; scope in full: "A method is given consisting in retaining 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane on a glass fibre filter, ultrasonic extraction with acetonitrile and analysis of the solution obtained by high-performance liquid chromatography. The lowest concentration of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane that can be determined by this method is 0.2 mg/m3" (our translation; spelling as on the card).
HOW MANY LABORATORIES AND IN WHAT FORM (copy of the accreditation scope database, data up to 17.09.2026, read on 05.10.2026). Number 04568 appears in 2 records at 2 laboratories; in the current PCA documents (read on 03.10.2026; issues of 11.06.2026 and 23.07.2026) — in 2 rows at the same laboratories; a search of all PCA documents downloaded from the BIP found no laboratories outside the database copy; no entry is suspended and no pages are repeated in any document. Notation "PN-Z-04568:2025-06" — AB 882 and AB 1207, without procedures. The "Laboratories" tab (search term "PN-Z-04568") shows both laboratories — checked with the tab query on the labcoda.pl production server on 05.10.2026. Bisphenol A in workplace air is determined in the database copy by two more laboratories without this standard (search by substance name): AB 849 according to the withdrawn PN-Z-04382:2009 alongside the article "Podstawy i Metody Oceny Środowiska Pracy 2017, nr 3 (93), s. 137-153" (0.14–4.2 mg/m³, HPLC-UV/Vis; issue No. 21 of 26.01.2026) and AB 934 in a flexible scope ("Normy, Procedury badawcze"; inhalable fraction, HPLC-UV; issue No. 32 of 03.07.2026).
WHAT THE LABORATORIES TEST (database copy and PCA documents). AB 882 — working environment, air, air samples: concentration and content of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (bisphenol A) — inhalable fraction, 0.13–5.0 mg/m³ (0.09–3.6 mg per sample), high-performance liquid chromatography with spectrophotometric detection (HPLC-UV/VIS). AB 1207 — inhalable fraction, 0.125–5 mg/m³ (0.02–3.6 mg per sample), HPLC-UV; the entry is in a group with three test objects: working environment (air samples collected on filters), general environment (ambient air samples) and indoor rooms (air samples collected on filters).
WHERE A SEEMINGLY CORRECT RESULT IS EASY TO GET. First — fraction: the NDS applies to the inhalable fraction; both laboratories with this standard describe the inhalable fraction, while the card of the standard does not mention the fraction — the report should state the fraction sampled. Second — two standards for one substance: alongside the current PN-Z-04568:2025-06, laboratory AB 849 still uses the withdrawn PN-Z-04382:2009; the card of the new standard does not link them with a "Replaces" field, so we do not write that one replaced the other. Third — detector: the standard allows spectrophotometric or fluorescence detection, both laboratories use spectrophotometric detection — the report should state which. Fourth — subject: at AB 1207 the entry is in a group that also covers ambient air and indoor rooms — for these subjects the NDS is not a reference value.
WHAT WE DO NOT GIVE. We did not have the text of the standard — we do not give the sampling method, the filter, the air flow rate, the solvent, the column, the wavelength or the calculations; we do not know the content of the CIOP articles. We do not claim how the 2025 method differs from the 2009 method beyond what the cards say (limit of quantification 0.107 versus 0.2 mg/m³).
Method principle
2,2-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane in workplace air is determined by high-performance liquid chromatography with spectrophotometric or fluorescence detection; lowest determinable concentration according to the PKN card — 0.107 mg/m³ for an 840 l sample. The result in mg/m³ is compared with the NDS of 2 mg/m³ for the inhalable fraction (Journal of Laws 2026 item 447). WE DO NOT GIVE details — we did not have the text of the standard.
