Overview
WHAT THE STANDARD COVERS. Scope from the PKN card, in full: "The method consists of adsorption of butyl acrylate on activated carbon, its extraction with carbon disulphide and chromatographic analysis of the resulting solution. The determinability of the method is 4 mg in 1 cubic metre of air" (our translation; no full stop at the end on the card; the card uses the older Polish name for carbon disulfide). We did not have the text of the standard (3 pages); the CIOP index of methods from 2000–2017 lists no article on butyl acrylate (searched on 04.10.2026).
NDS VALUES (list in the annex to the regulation of 26 March 2026, Journal of Laws 2026 item 447). Item 9: "Butyl acrylate [141-32-2]" — NDS 11 mg/m³, NDSCh 30 mg/m³, no "skin" notation. The determinability according to the card, 4 mg/m³, is about 36 % of the NDS.
STATUS (card as of 04.10.2026). The card of PN-Z-04113-06:1986 (Polish version) has the heading "Withdrawn": published 30-06-1986, withdrawal date 17-10-2011, 3 pages, price group B, Health, Environment and Medicine Sector, KT 159 Chemical and Dust Hazards in the Working Environment, ICS 13.040.30; the card does not name a replacing standard. The PKN search for "PN-Z-04113" (04.10.2026) shows the whole series "Tests for acrylic compounds content" (sheets 00–12) labelled "Withdrawn"; the search for "akrylanu butylu" returns only this sheet and the current PN-Z-04283:2001 — for butyl methacrylate, a different substance.
HOW MANY LABORATORIES AND IN WHAT FORM (copy of the accreditation scope database, data load up to 17.09.2026, read on 04.10.2026). The number 04113-06 (with a hyphen, dot or slash before the sheet number) appears in 5 records at 5 laboratories; in the current PCA documents (read on 03.10.2026; issues from 08.01.2026 to 28.07.2026 — all issued after the withdrawal of the standard) — in 5 rows at the same laboratories; a search of all PCA documents downloaded from the BIP found no laboratories outside the database copy; no item is suspended and no document repeats pages. Form "PN-Z-04113-06:1986" — AB 1168, AB 1642 and AB 882 (together with procedure PB-10 issue 1 of 31.08.2022); old form "PN-86/Z-04113/06" — AB 1144 and AB 1207 (together with procedure PB-06A issue 7 of 20.01.2025). "Laboratories" tab: "PN-Z-04113-06" shows 3 laboratories, "PN-86/Z-04113/06" — 2, 5 in total, the same in the copy and on the production server labcoda.pl (tab queries of 04.10.2026). Other sheets of this series — on methyl acrylate (05) and methyl methacrylate (09) — are described in separate entries of this database.
WHAT THE LABORATORIES TEST (database copy). Object: working environment — air, at some laboratories samples collected on solid sorbent or sorbent tubes; at AB 1207 the object recorded in the copy covers, besides the working environment, also samples of ambient and indoor air. Quantity: concentration (content) of butyl acrylate. Ranges in mg/m³: 0.120–333 (AB 1642), 0.50–480 (AB 1207, GC-MS), 0.59–596 (AB 882, GC-MS), 0.90–324 (AB 1144), 1.39–178 (AB 1168). Technique: gas chromatography with flame ionisation detection (GC-FID) — AB 1144, AB 1168, AB 1642; gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection (GC-MS) — AB 882 and AB 1207, according to in-house procedures PB-10 and PB-06A.
WHERE A SEEMINGLY CORRECT RESULT IS EASY TO GET. First — status: the standard has been withdrawn since 17-10-2011, and the PKN search shows no other standard for butyl acrylate; 5 laboratories have it in scopes issued in 2026 — the client should know that the result is produced according to a standard withdrawn from the PKN catalogue. Second — limit of quantification: according to the card 4 mg/m³, i.e. more than a third of the NDS; all laboratories give a lower bottom limit (from 0.120 to 1.39 mg/m³), which requires conditions different from those in the standard — the report should name them. Third — similar names: butyl acrylate (item 9 of the NDS list) and butyl methacrylate (item 356, NDS 100 mg/m³, current PN-Z-04283:2001) are different substances with different NDS values. Fourth — detector: the GC-MS items (AB 882, AB 1207) are carried out according to in-house procedures, with the standard alongside. Fifth — object: at AB 1207 the same item covers ambient and indoor air, for which the NDS is not a reference value.
WHAT WE DO NOT GIVE. We did not have the text of the standard — we do not give the volume or flow rate of air sampling, the tube type and carbon mass, the column, the detector required by the standard, chromatograph conditions or calculations. We do not claim that another standard has replaced PN-Z-04113-06:1986 — PKN names none.
Method principle
Butyl acrylate from workplace air is adsorbed on activated carbon, extracted with carbon disulfide, and the resulting solution is analysed chromatographically (PKN card); the result in mg/m³ is compared with the NDS of 11 mg/m³ and the NDSCh of 30 mg/m³. The determinability of the method according to the card is 4 mg/m³. The standard is withdrawn (17-10-2011); WE DO NOT GIVE details — we did not have the text of the standard.
