Triple quadrupole ICP-MS with a dual-cell system
At the ASMS 2026 conference Agilent presented the 9500 ICP-MS with a dual-cell system, easing the move from single to triple quadrupole.
- The biggest difficulty in trace element analysis is interference — ions of the same mass as the element measured, which inflate the result.
- The manufacturer states that a dual-cell system with an air mode and an advanced helium mode is to simplify interference removal while keeping the familiar way of working.
- The declared applications are environmental monitoring, food safety and pharmaceutical testing — areas where laboratories measure metals at trace level.
- For a laboratory considering replacing an instrument, what matters is not the device itself but whether existing methods and standards can be transferred without revalidation.
