Cots and pacifier holders in the Trade Inspection laboratory: 7 of 12 cots with defects
Poland’s Trade Inspection tested 12 models of cots against PN-EN 716 and 15 models of soothers and pacifier holders against PN-EN 1400 and PN-EN 12586 in the laboratory. 7 cots were rejected, 4 of them with significant defects, as were 2 of 10 holders; all 5 soothers passed.
- The cots were checked by the regional inspectorates in Białystok, Kielce, Kraków, Warsaw and Wrocław between April and June 2026; stability, strength, gaps between bars, sharp edges, folding and locking mechanisms and detachment of small parts were tested according to PN-EN 716-1+AC:2019-07 and PN-EN 716-2:2017-07.
- The defects found included incorrect spacing between bars (head entrapment risk), a bar breaking under load, the cot tipping over under side load and a missing lock on the two-level base; for 3 of the 7 rejected models the risk was assessed as low.
- The holders were tested against PN-EN 12586 (the 2011 edition or the September 2025 edition, depending on when the product was placed on the market) and the soothers against PN-EN 1400+A2:2018-12; the two faulty holders showed, among other things, excessive length, too thin a cord, a cracking bead and inadequate ventilation holes in the clip.
- Proceedings are under way for the products with significant defects and may end with fines of up to PLN 1 million; labelling was questioned for 2 of the 17 soother and holder models, including an unjustified CE mark.
