Prams and baby bouncers in the laboratory: design defects in 4 of 10 prams and 7 of 9 bouncers
On 6 February 2026 UOKiK reported on a check of 19 models of prams and baby bouncers, finding irregularities in 13. The laboratory tested the prams to PN-EN 1888-1+A1:2022-09 and PN-EN 1888-2+A1:2023-05 and the bouncers to PN-EN 12790-1:2023-08.
- Prams for children weighing up to 22 kg (pushchairs, carrycots and 2-in-1 prams) were checked from January to October 2025 by the inspectorates in Katowice, Kraków, Lublin and Wrocław — 10 models, 4 from Poland, 3 from other EU countries and 3 from outside the Union. The laboratory tested, among other things, stability on an inclined surface, unintended opening of harnesses, sharp edges, finger and limb entrapment points, the backrest angle of pushchairs, the side height of carrycots, wheel strength and folding mechanisms.
- Design defects were found in 4 prams: harnesses that did not hold the child effectively or whose fastening opened unintentionally, faulty locking mechanisms, the pram tipping over and a cracked component; the marking was questioned in 3 models; in total 6 of 10 prams were found non-compliant.
- Bouncers for infants who cannot yet sit up were checked from June to October 2025 by the inspectorates in Białystok, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Olsztyn, Poznań and Szczecin — 9 models, 7 of them from outside the EU. Seven had design defects: a harness that could be fastened without the crotch restraint, harness straps that were too narrow, a locking mechanism released by less force than required and packaging film that was too thin; the marking was questioned in 5 of them.
- The UOKiK President received 3 requests concerning prams and 4 concerning bouncers; 2 proceedings were opened in each case. The reports point out that the Polish Act of 7 November 2025 on the supervision of general product safety has applied since 3 January 2026 and that a manufacturer or importer of a non-compliant product now faces a fine of up to PLN 1 million (previously PLN 100,000).
