Water pumps tested for the Polish Trade Inspection: 5 of 15 models with supply cord defects
Between March and May 2026 the Polish Trade Inspection checked 15 models of clean- and dirty-water pumps, which a testing laboratory examined against the PN-EN IEC 60335 series. Five models had design defects — a supply cord that was too short or had too small a conductor cross-section; 8 models had labelling or documentation shortcomings.
- The checks were carried out by the regional inspectorates in Białystok, Bydgoszcz, Lublin, Olsztyn, Poznań and Wrocław in 8 retail shops, 5 large-format stores and 2 wholesalers; 9 models were made in China, 5 in Poland and 1 in Sweden.
- The laboratory tested protection against access to live parts, electric strength, conductor cross-section and length of the supply cord, and protective (earthing) wiring according to PN-EN IEC 60335-1:2024-04 and PN-EN IEC 60335-2-41:2022-01/A11:2022-05 (particular requirements for pumps).
- In 3 models the supply cord was too short to allow safe use as intended, and in 2 the conductor cross-section was too small, reducing mechanical strength and creating a fire risk.
- Formal shortcomings affected 8 models: incomplete safety information (7), instructions (5), declarations of conformity (4) and missing model and producer address marking (1); in 6 cases the inspection will ask the President of UOKiK to open administrative proceedings.
