Sunglasses tested at CIOP in Łódź: 3 of 15 models with a filter category different from the declared one
Between March and May 2026 the Polish Trade Inspection checked 15 models of sunglasses, which the Central Institute for Labour Protection (CIOP) in Łódź tested against PN-EN ISO 12312-1:2022-12. In 3 models the filter category was higher or lower than declared, and in 2 the recognition of the red traffic signal was impaired.
- The checks were carried out by the inspectorates in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Lublin, Łódź, Rzeszów and Szczecin in 7 retail shops, 2 large-format stores and 2 wholesalers; 13 models came from China and one each from France and Italy.
- The laboratory determined luminous transmittance and spectral ultraviolet transmittance (filter categories 0 to 4), the visual attenuation quotient for signal lights and transmittance in the 475–650 nm band, relevant for sunglasses used when driving.
- Five models were rejected: one had a higher filter category than declared, two a lower one, and two impaired recognition of the red traffic signal.
- Formal shortcomings were found in 7 models (including 5 declarations of conformity and 2 missing technical files), and instructions were incorrect in 5; altogether the inspection objected to 10 of the 15 models, and administrative proceedings are possible in 8 cases.
