Four thousand surface water monitoring points in Poland
On World Water Monitoring Day the Polish Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection recalled that 4,240 surface water bodies were designated for the 2022–2027 cycle, around 4,000 of them covered by the monitoring programme.
- Monitoring is run in three forms — surveillance, operational and investigative — with an additional intervention monitoring of the “golden alga” on the Oder.
- Surveillance monitoring of rivers covers 5 biological elements, about 30 physicochemical and about 50 chemical indicators; chemical substances are determined 12 times a year, biological elements once a year.
- Results are published on the Surface Water Quality Portal; the scale of the programme translates directly into demand for accredited water testing.
