New rules for construction products
From 8 January 2026 most construction products fall under a new regulation. One body confirms the product type, based on results for all essential characteristics.
- The new regulation has replaced the previous rules for placing construction products on the market.
- Testing used to be split between several notified bodies, each confirming its own slice.
- Now one body confirms the product type, even if several laboratories carried out the testing.
- Reports must be unambiguous about the sample, the method and the conditions so they can be set alongside other laboratories’ results.
- Existing designations and technical specifications are being reviewed against the new rules, and some will be replaced.
- Hence work on two fronts: testing for new type assessments and repeat tests wherever the old documentation is not enough.
