ISO 9001:2026 published — three years to transition
On 16 September 2026 ISO announced the sixth edition of the quality management system standard. Certificates to ISO 9001:2015 cease to be valid after 30 September 2029.
- The new edition replaces ISO 9001:2015 and keeps the existing high-level structure — the management system does not have to be rebuilt from scratch.
- Changes cover quality culture and ethical behaviour, separate treatment of risks and opportunities, planning of changes and retaining and sharing organisational knowledge; Annex A has been expanded.
- The transition period is three years: certificates issued against the 2015 edition cease to apply after 30 September 2029.
