Determining ash in plastics anew — the sixth edition of the general standard
ISO 3451-1:2026 supersedes the 2019 edition and gives general methods together with test conditions for a range of plastics. The European version EN ISO 3451-1:2026 adopts the text unchanged.
- The sixth edition appeared in May 2026; in the European collection it supersedes EN ISO 3451-1:2019, and the ISO text was adopted without any modification.
- The standard gives general methods for determining ash together with suitable test conditions for a range of plastics — it is the document reached for when a material has no dedicated part of its own.
- Particular conditions for poly(alkylene terephthalates), unplasticized cellulose acetate, polyamides and poly(vinyl chloride), including filled, glass-fibre-reinforced and flame-retarded grades, remain in parts two to five.
- For a plastics testing laboratory the change means updating the reference document in the scope of accreditation and in reports — citing plain "ISO 3451-1" without a year no longer identifies a specific edition.
