Amendment to the standard for detecting Listeria monocytogenes
ISO 11290-1:2017/Amd 1:2026 introduces rules for storing samples before analysis and changes the control strain used to test culture media and reagents.
- The standard sets out the horizontal method for detecting and enumerating Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria spp. in the food chain; the amendment was prepared by committee ISO/TC 34/SC 9.
- The first change covers storage of samples before analysis, a step that laboratories often settled in their own procedures until now.
- The second change is a different control strain for performance testing of culture media and reagents, which means media quality control records have to be revised.
- A new edition of a reference document is a change to the scope of accreditation and has to be reported to the accreditation body.
