Residential emission testing now covers magnetic field and wireless charging
The fourth edition of IEC 61000-6-3 supersedes the 2020 one. It adds magnetic field emission requirements including measurement of the wireless power transfer function, and the 9–150 kHz range on the mains supply.
- This generic standard covers electrical and electronic equipment intended for residential locations; the fourth edition appeared in April 2026 and cancels the third edition of 2020.
- The biggest change for a testing laboratory is the magnetic field emission assessment, which simply did not exist before — together with measurement of equipment with a wireless power transfer function.
- Requirements for low-voltage AC mains supply were extended to the 9 kHz to 150 kHz range, and products with a radio function were added to the scope.
- Measurement techniques and limits for magnetic field emission below 30 MHz have also changed — which calls for a review of equipment and test set-ups.
