The UK PFAS plan: a statutory review of drinking water rules announced
In February 2026 the government published a national PFAS plan, announcing a review of water quality rules with a view to setting binding limits for these compounds.
- Today the UK drinking water guidance is not law: water companies have no statutory duty to meet a specific PFAS concentration, but they do have to monitor and report.
- The plan announces a change — the review is to consider putting a limit directly into the regulations.
- By the end of 2026 the environment agency is to give public bodies a GIS-based PFAS prioritisation map showing where to sample first.
