Ready-to-use Legionella media instead of in-house preparation
A range of ready-poured plates for detecting and enumerating Legionella in water, aligned with the ISO 11731 workflow, has reached the market. It removes the most variable step of the test — preparing selective media in-house.
- The range covers the non-selective BCYE medium, the selective GVPC and BCYE with antibiotics, the MWY medium for samples with a complex microbial background, and a cysteine-free variant used for confirmation.
- Media prepared in-house have variable shelf life and vary in quality between batches; the ready-made product has a fixed three-month shelf life.
- For a water testing laboratory this means less preparation work and less risk that a discrepant result turns out to be the fault of the medium rather than the sample.
- The range appeared on 23 March 2026 and was launched at the Analytica 2026 trade fair.
