UK water regulator: 48 PFAS compounds and three action tiers
Water companies monitor the sum of 48 named PFAS and report a result at or above 0.1 µg/l as a water quality event requiring action.
- The regime has three tiers: below 0.01 µg/l, between 0.01 and 0.1 µg/l — with an obligation to investigate the source — and above 0.1 µg/l with corrective action.
- For a laboratory this is a concrete analytical requirement: the method must separate and quantify individual compounds at single nanograms per litre.
- The national PFAS plan announces extending this from the sum to individual compounds, so analyte lists will keep growing.
