France adds PFAS to routine sanitary control of drinking water
From 1 January 2026 the twenty most common PFAS are a mandatory part of routine drinking water testing, with a 0.10 µg/l limit for their sum.
- France moved ahead of the EU deadline: PFAS surveillance in tap water has run since 2023, and from January 2026 the determinations became part of the ordinary routine panel.
- Further micropollutants joined the sanitary control alongside PFAS, so the number of analyses per water sample keeps growing.
- The tests are done by laboratories approved by the national food and environment safety agency or accredited by the French accreditation body, and results are public.
