Sustainable aviation fuel: 2.8% share in 2025 against a 2% obligation
On 17 September 2026 EASA published its annual report on the implementation of the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation. EU airports supplied 39.3 million tonnes of aviation fuel in 2025, including 1.1 million tonnes of SAF.
- The SAF share reached 2.8% and exceeded the mandatory 2% target for 2025; volume grew almost six-fold from 193,000 tonnes in 2024.
- In 2025 SAF was supplied at 121 airports in all 27 Member States, against 33 airports a year earlier; 84% came from EU production and plants operating or announced were recorded in 18 Member States.
- Production capacity is expected to match the mandatory 6% SAF share from 2030 — meaning a growing number of fuel quality tests and blend checks.
