Saccharomyces cerevisiae NBRC 0203 and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus NBRC 3425 as a silage additive: enumeration on YGC agar (EN 15789) and MRS agar (EN 15787), identification according to CEN/TS 15790 and CEN/TS 17697; the act states 4 × 10² CFU/mL of bacteria, the EFSA opinion 4 × 10⁷
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1018, published on 8 May 2026, authorises until 28 May 2036 a liquid preparation of the yeast S. cerevisiae NBRC 0203 and the bacterium L. rhamnosus NBRC 3425 as a silage additive for all animal species, only in easy and moderately difficult to ensile material. Minimum dose: 4.0 × 10² CFU of yeast and 3.2 × 10⁶ CFU of bacteria per kg fresh plant material.
- Methods: identification of S. cerevisiae — DNA sequencing or PCR (CEN/TS 15790); L. rhamnosus — DNA sequencing or pulsed-field gel electrophoresis PFGE (CEN/TS 17697); enumeration in the additive by pour or spread plate — on YGC agar (EN 15789) for the yeast and on MRS agar (EN 15787) for the bacterium. In the Polish version the bacterial identification row names strain “NCIMB 3425”, elsewhere and in the English version — NBRC 3425.
- Composition: the act in its Polish and English versions — at least 5 × 10³ CFU S. cerevisiae and 4 × 10² CFU L. rhamnosus per mL additive; the EFSA opinion gives a specification of 5 × 10³ and 4 × 10⁷ CFU/mL, and in 5 batches 6.2 × 10³–5.9 × 10⁵ CFU/mL of yeast and 4.6 × 10⁷–3.4 × 10⁸ CFU/mL of bacteria. The preparation has pH 3.18–3.44; aflatoxins 1.16–1.54 µg/kg, citrinin 34.1–46.2 µg/kg; viability losses ≤ 1 log after 200 days at room temperature.
- Efficacy: 4 experiments in 2.75 L mini-silos (8 replicates, at least 90 days) — grass with clover and late-mown grass (easy to ensile), red clover and tall fescue (moderately difficult), dry matter 31–51 %. DM, pH, lactic and volatile fatty acids, ethanol and ammonia nitrogen were determined; aerobic stability was measured as time to a temperature rise of 3 °C above ambient. There were no data for difficult to ensile material.
- Users: the preparation is a skin and respiratory sensitiser, any exposure through skin and respiratory tract is a risk; eye irritation was not assessed. The act requires skin, eye and respiratory protection. Thresholds under Regulation (EC) No 429/2008: easy to ensile material has > 3 % soluble carbohydrates in fresh matter, moderately difficult 1.5–3.0 %.
