Recycled content in bottles — new calculation and verification rules
Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1425 sets a common methodology for calculating, verifying and reporting recycled plastic content in single-use beverage bottles. Verification is done by an accredited conformity assessment body.
- The decision implements Directive (EU) 2019/904 and repeals the earlier Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/2683.
- The common methodology also covers chemical recycling, so processes so far treated inconsistently across Member States now count towards the figures.
- Only a conformity assessment body accredited under Regulation (EC) No 765/2008 may act as verifier; verification is risk-based and performed on site at the installation, reviewing inputs, outputs and supporting documentation.
