Nearly 8,000 bird flu outbreaks in the season — EFSA issues biosecurity materials
On 17 September 2026 EFSA and the European Commission released the #NoBirdFlu toolkit for farmers and veterinarians. Between October 2025 and June 2026 nearly 8,000 outbreaks were detected in Europe.
- The toolkit contains two infographics, posters, a video on preventive measures on the farm and social media materials — in all official EU languages.
- Five recommended actions: control access to the farm, keep cleaning and disinfection effective, prevent contact with wild birds, keep poultry species separate and recognise signs of disease early.
- Detections in wild birds were four times higher than in the previous season, and most infections on poultry farms came from indirect contact — the materials were issued ahead of the autumn migration.
