Airflow resistance of sound-absorbing materials — the static method
EN ISO 9053-1:2026 describes the static method for determining airflow resistance — the property that governs how well sound-absorbing materials work.
- Airflow resistance decides how much sound energy a material turns into heat — the basic property of mineral wool, foams and acoustic linings.
- The static method passes a steady, slow stream of air through the specimen and measures the pressure difference.
- The result feeds into calculations of the sound insulation of building elements, so it concerns both material producers and testing in buildings.
- For acoustic and construction laboratories the new edition means checking that the test rig meets the updated requirements.
