Radio equipment: new harmonised standards and an amendment to EN 50566 on field exposure
Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2003 adds 12 ETSI standards and amendment EN 50566:2017/A2:2025 to the list of harmonised standards under Directive 2014/53/EU. Three electromagnetic compatibility standards of the EN 301 489 series were listed with restrictions.
- The new ETSI standards cover, among others, radiodetermination equipment for location tracking applications (EN 300 440-2 V3.1.1), ultra-wide band devices installed in motor and railway vehicles (EN 302 065-3-3 V3.1.0), material sensing devices (EN 302 065-4-4 V2.1.1) and air traffic control sensors (EN 303 364-1-1 V1.1.1); a new edition was also listed for tank level probing radar (EN 302 372 V3.1.1).
- EN 301 489-5 V2.3.1, EN 301 489-13 V2.1.1 and EN 301 489-50 V2.4.1 do not address emission requirements in frequency bands below 9 kHz, and EN 301 489-13 confers no presumption of conformity with the essential requirement of Article 3(1)(b) of Directive 2014/53/EU if its clause 6 is applied.
- Amendment EN 50566:2017/A2:2025 concerns the product standard for demonstrating compliance of wireless communication devices with the basic restrictions and exposure limit values for human exposure to electromagnetic fields from 30 MHz to 6 GHz (hand-held and body-mounted devices).
- The decision entered into force on publication, 7 September 2026; references to previous editions, including EN 50566:2017 with A1:2023, will be withdrawn from 7 March 2028.
