Personal protective equipment: EN 352-6, -8, -9 and -10 as +A1:2024 (hearing protectors with safety-related audio input and entertainment audio) and EN 813:2024 (sit harnesses) in the list of harmonised standards; EN 175:1997 drops out from 11 November 2025, the old versions from 14 August 2026
Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2025/286, published on 14 February 2025, amends the list of harmonised standards for Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment (Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/941). It adds four parts of EN 352 with amendment A1:2024 and EN 813:2024, and deletes their previous versions as well as EN 175:1997 for eye and face protection during welding, withdrawn by CEN and replaced by EN ISO 16321-2:2021.
- New rows in Annex I to Decision 2023/941: 25a EN 352-6:2020+A1:2024 (safety-related audio input earmuffs), 27a EN 352-8:2020+A1:2024 (entertainment audio earmuffs), 28a EN 352-9:2020+A1:2024 (safety-related audio input ear-plugs), 29a EN 352-10:2020+A1:2024 (entertainment audio ear-plugs) and 63a EN 813:2024 (sit harnesses). Compliance with them confers a presumption of conformity with the essential requirements of Annex II to Regulation 2016/425 from the date of publication.
- The deletions are deferred to give manufacturers time to switch to the new editions: row 14 (EN 175:1997) from 11 November 2025, rows 25, 27, 28, 29 and 63 (EN 352-6, -8, -9, -10 in the 2020 version and EN 813:2008) from 14 August 2026. Both dates have passed — since 14 August 2026 only the editions with amendment A1:2024 and EN 813:2024 confer a presumption of conformity.
- Background: CEN reviewed the standards under standardisation request C(2020) 7924, amended by Decision C(2024)2750, which added and removed some standards and extended deadlines. Eye and face protection during welding is now covered by EN ISO 16321-2:2021, already published by Decision 2023/941. The decision entered into force on the day of publication.
- EN 813:2024 according to the standard’s record in the Estonian EVS catalogue (valid from 1 April 2024, replacing EVS-EN 813:2008): it specifies requirements, testing, marking and manufacturer’s instructions and information for sit harnesses used in restraint, work positioning and rope access systems where a low attachment point is required; sit harnesses are not suitable for fall arrest.
