Machinery: 67 new and amended harmonised standards, including EN ISO 3744:2026 for determining sound power — the list under Directive 2006/42/EC ceases to apply on 20 January 2027
Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2015, published on 7 September 2026, adds to the list of harmonised standards under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC the references of 67 standards — new ones or with amendments and corrections — including the acoustics standard EN ISO 3744:2026, machinery safety standards and parts of the EN IEC 62841 series for power tools. Applying them gives a presumption of conformity with the essential requirements from the date of publication.
- EN ISO 3744:2026 (ISO 3744:2025, including corrected version 2026-01) describes determining the sound power level of a noise source from sound pressure measurements on a surface enveloping the source, in an environment approximating a free field over a reflecting plane. According to the EVS catalogue, differently shaped measurement surfaces can yield differing estimates of sound power, which is accounted for in the uncertainty of the method, and the choice of surface should be specified in detail by a noise test code (ISO 12001); the standard belongs to the ISO 3741–3747 series.
- The added standards include EN ISO 13855:2024 (positioning of safeguards with respect to the approach of the human body), EN ISO 14119:2025 with amendment A11:2026 (interlocking devices associated with guards), EN ISO 10218-1:2025 and EN ISO 10218-2:2025 (industrial robots), parts of the EN ISO 19085 series (woodworking machines), EN ISO 18497-1 to -4:2024 (partially automated, semi-autonomous and autonomous agricultural machinery) and EN IEC 60335-2-40:2024 (electrical heat pumps, air-conditioners and dehumidifiers).
- From the EN IEC 62841 series — electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools and lawn and garden machinery — the list covers 13 parts (new or amended), including 62841-2-7:2024 for hand-held spray guns. CEN also corrected the harmonised standards EN 13155:2020+A1:2025 and EN 14439:2025, which is reflected in Part Three of the list.
- The decision entered into force on the day of its publication in the Official Journal of the EU. Because Directive 2006/42/EC is repealed by Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on machinery with effect from 20 January 2027, Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/1586 containing the list of harmonised standards for the directive ceases to apply on the same date.
