Low Voltage Directive: EN 50214:2024 (flat flexible cables, among others for lifts) and EN 50620:2017 with amendments A1:2019 and A2:2024 (charging cables for electric vehicles) in the list of harmonised standards; old references until 23 January 2027
Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2025/1488, published on 23 July 2025, enters in the list of harmonised standards for Directive 2014/35/EU (Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/2723) the revised standard EN 50214:2024 (row 31a) and EN 50620:2017 together with amendments A1:2019 and A2:2024 (row 107a). It deletes rows 31 and 107 with the old references from 23 January 2027.
- Basis: request M/511 of 8 November 2012 to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI; according to recital 2 the safety objectives in Article 3 and Annex I to Directive 2014/35/EU have not changed since then. CENELEC revised EN 50214:2006 (with corrigendum AC:2007) — in the English version “flat polyvinyl chloride sheathed flexible cables”, in the Polish version additionally „dźwigowe” (for lifts) — and adopted EN 50214:2024 titled “Flat flexible cables”; it amended EN 50620:2017 (amended by A1:2019) with amendment A2:2024.
- EN 50214:2024 according to the EVS record (valid from 1 July 2024; the record’s history also lists EVS-EN 50214:2007; ICS 29.060.20): construction, requirements and particular test methods for flat flexible PVC or halogen-free insulated and sheathed cables of rated voltage Uo/U 300/500 V and, above 1 mm², 450/750 V for passenger and goods lifts, and 450/750 V for general purposes and special applications such as hoists and travelling cranes. By agreement with CEN/TC 10 only the cables in clauses 5 and 6 are suitable for use with EN 81-20; the limits for the overall diameter were calculated according to EN 60719.
- EN 50620:2017/A2:2024 according to the EVS record (valid from 15 October 2024): design, dimensions and test requirements for halogen-free cables with extruded insulation and sheath, up to 450/750 V, for supplying power to an electric vehicle from the supply point or charging station under severe conditions; the cables cover charging modes 1–3 of EN 61851-1, and the 300/500 V versions only mode 1; maximum conductor operating temperature 90 °C.
- Transition: the withdrawal of the references to EN 50214:2006 (with AC:2007) and EN 50620:2017 with A1:2019 was deferred to give manufacturers time to adapt their equipment — point 1 of the annex (deletion of rows 31 and 107) applies from 23 January 2027. For laboratories testing lift cables and EV charging cables, the reference conferring a presumption of conformity with the Low Voltage Directive from 23 July 2025 is EN 50214:2024 and EN 50620:2017 with A2:2024.
