Professional safety helmets: 46 of 65 samples met the requirements
An EU test campaign covered 65 professional helmets bought in eight Member States. 46 samples (71%) met the requirements, with shock absorption the most frequent cause of failure.
- Samples came from Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden, from both online and physical shops.
- Five characteristics were tested: shock absorption, penetration resistance, flame resistance, chinstrap anchorage strength and marking permanence; the first two were carried out after conditioning at extreme temperatures, water immersion and UV ageing.
- 8 cases were rated serious risk and 4 high risk; 6 products were withdrawn from the market, 2 recalled from consumers, 1 banned from sale, 7 warnings were issued, 8 products entered Safety Gate and 39 the ICSMS database.
