Euro 6: final registration dates before Euro 7 and type-approval testing aligned with UN Regulations No 154 and 168
Commission Regulation (EU) 2026/1791, published on 24 July 2026, writes the final registration dates for Euro 6 vehicles into Regulation (EU) 2017/1151 and aligns the WLTP and RDE test procedures with UN Regulations No 154 and 168. Passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (M1, N1) meeting Euro 6e-bis can be registered until 28 November 2027.
- Categories M2 and N2: Euro 6e-bis until 31 December 2027, and Euro 6e-bis-FCM — mandatory for new types from 1 January 2027 and for new vehicles from 1 January 2028 — until 28 May 2029. The same final dates (28 November 2027 for M1 and N1, 28 May 2029 for M2 and N2) apply to pure battery electric and fuel cell vehicles.
- Small-volume manufacturers get later dates: Euro 6e-bis for M1 and N1 until 31 December 2027, and Euro 6e-bis-FCM as well as battery electric and fuel cell vehicles until 30 June 2030 (M1, N1) and 30 June 2031 (M2, N2). Euro 7 covers new M1 and N1 vehicles from 29 November 2027 and M2 and N2 from 29 May 2029.
- For hydrogen-fuelled vehicles only fuel consumption is determined, aligning the WLTP methodology with UN Regulation No 154; for conformity testing of evaporative emissions (Type 4 test) and on-board diagnostics that regulation takes precedence, and points 4.6 and 4.7 of Annex I to Regulation 2017/1151 are deleted.
- In real driving emissions (RDE) testing, references to the portable emissions measurement system (PEMS) are aligned with Annex 4 of UN Regulation No 168, and the drift correction and the calculation based on intake air mass flow and air-to-fuel ratio with points 5.0 and 7.3 of its Annex 7. The regulation entered into force on the 20th day after publication.
