EN 18060 on electric vehicle batteries published as a harmonised standard
With Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2048 the Commission published the reference of EN 18060:2025 on the performance and durability of electric vehicle modules and batteries. From the publication date, 16 September 2026, compliance gives a presumption of conformity with the relevant requirements of Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.
- The standard concerns road vehicles and covers rechargeable EV modules and batteries with internal energy storage in alkali-ion (Li-ion, Na-ion), lead (Pb), NiMH and combined chemistries.
- It was drafted by CEN following the Commission standardisation request C(2021) 8614 of 7 December 2021 on performance, safety and sustainability requirements for batteries.
- The Batteries Regulation provides that batteries complying with harmonised standards are presumed to meet the requirements of Articles 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 78 to the extent those standards cover them.
- The decision was adopted on 14 September 2026 and entered into force on publication. Laboratories testing electric vehicle batteries now have a standard that manufacturers can rely on when demonstrating conformity.
