Gas water heaters: EN 13203-1:2025 cited as a harmonised standard for ecodesign — a corrigendum removed the reference to energy labelling
By Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1717, published on 23 July 2026, the Commission cited EN 13203-1:2025 (“Gas fired domestic appliances producing hot water - Part 1: Assessment of performance of hot water deliveries”) as a harmonised standard for gas water heaters. A corrigendum of 8 September 2026 limited it to the ecodesign Regulation (EU) No 814/2013.
- The original decision listed the standard in two annexes: for Delegated Regulation (EU) No 812/2013 on energy labelling and for Regulation (EU) No 814/2013 on ecodesign requirements. The corrigendum restated the decision with a single annex — for ecodesign only.
- Compliance with a harmonised standard confers a presumption of conformity with the corresponding requirements from the date the reference is published in the EU Official Journal; the decision entered into force on the day of publication.
- The standard was developed under standardisation request C(2015) 2625 of 27 April 2015, in which the Commission asked CEN to adapt, among others, EN 26:1997, EN 89:1999, EN 13203-2:2006 and EN 15036-1:2006.
- Both regulations cover water heaters and hot water storage tanks, and the labelling regulation also packages of a water heater and a solar device. The corrigendum also corrected the basis on which the standard was assessed — from “request M/534” to Implementing Decision C(2015) 2625.
