Six biocidal active substance approvals extended to 2029 because evaluations are delayed — for hydrogen peroxide due to the assessment of the 5-batch analysis, for MIT of developmental neurotoxicity data; folpet loses product-type 7
Commission Implementing Decisions (EU) 2026/2119, 2026/2124, 2026/2127, 2026/2131, 2026/2134 and 2026/2151, published on 25 and 28 September 2026, extend the expiry dates of approvals because the evaluation of renewal applications has been delayed for reasons beyond the applicants’ control: hydrogen peroxide (product-types 1–5) and granulated copper (product-type 8) — to 31 July 2029, K-HDO (product-type 8) — to 30 June 2029, IPBC (product-type 13) — to 31 May 2029, 2-methylisothiazol-3(2H)-one, i.e. MIT (product-type 13), and folpet (product-type 9) — to 31 March 2029.
- Hydrogen peroxide (Implementing Regulation 2015/1730, product-types 1–6) was due to expire on 31 January 2027. The renewal applications of 29 July 2025 covered only product-types 1–5 — no application was submitted for product-type 6. The Finnish evaluating authority reported on 16 March 2026 that the evaluation is delayed by the assessment of data on the determination of the exact composition of the substance (5-batch analysis); the report is not expected before the first quarter of 2028.
- 2-Methylisothiazol-3(2H)-one in product-type 13 (preservatives for fluids used in working or cutting metal, glass or other materials): the approval was due to expire on 30 September 2026; the Slovenian authority reported a delay linked to the assessment of developmental neurotoxicity data and plans the report by the third quarter of 2028. IPBC in the same product-type: new studies were added to the application compared with the original dossier, and the Danish authority will not submit its recommendation before the end of 2027; the previous expiry date was 30 November 2026.
- Folpet: an application was submitted only for product-type 9 (preservation of fibrous, leather, rubber and polymerised materials). The delay at the evaluating authority in Switzerland concerns data on risks to health and the environment, efficacy and analytical and physico-chemical properties. The approval of folpet for product-type 7 (film preservatives) was not extended and expired on 30 September 2026.
- K-HDO (product-type 8, wood preservatives) receives its third extension: previously to 31 December 2022 (Decision 2019/1950) and to 31 December 2026 (Decision 2022/1488); the Austrian authority reported delays in assessing efficacy and endocrine-disrupting properties. For granulated copper (product-type 8) the French authority reported a delay on 19 March 2026. All six decisions enter into force on the twentieth day after publication.
