Acetamiprid: MRLs lowered after EFSA reduced the ADI and ARfD from 0.025 to 0.005 mg/kg bw — currants, bananas, lettuces, escaroles, spinach and chards to the limit of quantification of 0.01 mg/kg, apples and pears from 0.4 to 0.07 mg/kg, in animal products the sum with IM-2-1; applicable from 19 August 2025
Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/158, published on 30 January 2025, replaces the acetamiprid column in Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005. It is based on EFSA statement e8759 (May 2024), which lowered the ADI and ARfD and included the metabolite IM-2-1 in the residue definition for risk assessment in fruit and leafy crops; the new MRLs apply from 19 August 2025.
- To the limit of quantification of 0.01 mg/kg (recital 4 — ARfD exceedance and no fall-back GAPs): currants, bananas, lettuces, escaroles/broad-leaved endives, spinach and chards. To the values proposed by EFSA (recital 5), among others: sweet cherries 0.8 (previously 1.5), peaches 0.08 (0.2), grapes 0.08 (table grapes 0.5), blackberries and raspberries 0.6 (2), blueberries 0.7 (2), melons, pumpkins and watermelons 0.08 (melons 0.2), tomatoes 0.06, broccoli and cauliflowers 0.06, head cabbages 0.03, lamb’s lettuce and rocket 1.5 (3), bovine liver 0.03 (1) and other bovine edible offal 0.05 mg/kg (1).
- MRLs marked (+) for review (recital 6): apples and pears 0.07 (previously 0.4), quinces 0.15, apricots 0.08 (0.8), sweet peppers 0.09, cucumbers and courgettes 0.05 mg/kg (courgettes 0.4) — EFSA considered them safe, but some residue trial data are missing; the Commission will take into account data submitted by 19 February 2027 or their absence. Residue definition in animal products (code 1000000 except honey 1040000): sum of acetamiprid and N-desmethyl-acetamiprid (IM-2-1), expressed as acetamiprid. Values in brackets — previous MRLs from the tables of the EFSA statement.
- EFSA statement (e8759): in view of major uncertainties regarding developmental neurotoxicity (DNT), the working group lowered the ADI and ARfD from 0.025 to 0.005 mg/kg bw; for risk assessment in fruit and leafy crops the residue definition is the sum of acetamiprid and IM-2-1, while for enforcement acetamiprid remains a sufficient marker. EFSA identified a consumer risk for 38 existing MRLs; for currants it gave two options — 0.7 or 0.01 mg/kg — because at 0.7 currant juice reached 141 % of the ARfD; the Commission chose 0.01. For bovine liver and offal the previous MRLs derived from Codex CXLs — EFSA noted that risk managers may consider withdrawing them.
- Monitoring data in the statement: LOQs reported by Member States for acetamiprid ranged from 0.001 to 0.1 mg/kg, 99 % of samples were analysed with an LOQ ≤ 0.01 mg/kg. IM-2-1 in spinach: on average 0.05, maximum 4.8 mg/kg, ratio of IM-2-1 to acetamiprid > 1 in 46 of 51 samples. The new MRLs were consulted on with trading partners through the WTO; the acetamiprid column was later replaced again by Regulation (EU) 2025/1212 with new MRLs for plums, oilseeds and honey.
