Germany: the PFAS limit in drinking water is in force, some 50 laboratories are accredited
Since 12 January 2026 the sum of twenty PFAS in drinking water must not exceed 0.1 µg/l. A second, stricter value — 0.02 µg/l for four compounds — starts in 2028.
- The German accreditation body set up the conditions for accrediting PFAS analysis right after the revised drinking water ordinance was published, so testing started together with the rule rather than after it.
- Around 50 testing laboratories across Germany are now accredited for PFAS determination under the ordinance.
- The second stage is PFAS-4 — PFOS, PFOA, PFNA and PFHxS — with a combined 0.02 µg/l from 12 January 2028.
