Jablonec nad Nisou: 24-hour air screening with mobile systems at six sites — no short-term limit values exceeded, benzo[a]pyrene 0.30–0.58 ng/m³
On 24 September 2026 the Czech National Institute of Public Health (SZÚ) published the results of 24-hour air pollution measurements with mobile systems in Jablonec nad Nisou, carried out on 21–22 October 2025. The short-term limit values for SO₂, NO₂, CO, O₃ and PM10 were not exceeded; the WHO recommendations were exceeded for PM10 and reached for PM2.5.
- The measurements were organised by SZÚ with the Liberec Region authority, the city and the regional public health station. SO₂, NO, NO₂, NOₓ, CO, O₃, PM10 and PM2.5 (at one site also PM1.0) and meteorological parameters were measured; 24-hour samples were taken at four points for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the PM10 fraction and at two points for arsenic, cadmium, chromium, manganese, nickel and lead in PM10.
- Benzo[a]pyrene concentrations in the 24-hour samples were 0.30–0.58 ng/m³. Chromium, manganese, nickel and lead concentrations corresponded to a medium level of burden, and arsenic and cadmium to a lower level, compared with values recorded in Czechia in 2024.
- The breakdown into PM10–2.5, PM2.5–1.0 and PM1.0 fractions at a kindergarten on the busy Palackého street identified road traffic as the main source of submicron particles; in peripheral parts of the town (Břízky, Pasecké náměstí) the influence of local domestic heating was also visible. SZÚ stresses that this was a screening measurement describing conditions on 21–22 October 2025, not year-round monitoring.
- Road noise was measured at the same time near a residential building: the night-time hygiene limit of 58 dB was exceeded by 1.5 dB, and the road operator received a temporary permit for a less strict limit until 31 December 2030, subject among other things to resurfacing and a noise barrier. It was the sixth such air measurement in towns of the Liberec Region.
