China: 6 mandatory and 248 recommended national standards apply from 1 October 2026, including GB 44703-2024 on optical radiation safety and GB/T 47399-2026, a luminescence method for testing the antibacterial activity of sanitary ware
On 30 September 2026 China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced that 6 mandatory and 248 recommended national standards take effect on 1 October. Those described include standards on production process safety, optical radiation safety and dip coating safety, and a test method standard for sanitary ware.
- Mandatory standard GB 44703—2024 “General requirements for optical radiation safety” sets risk classification, labelling and safety controls for laser products and incoherent light products. According to the national standards information platform it was issued on 29 September 2024 and applies from 1 October 2026; it is administered by TC284 on optical radiation safety and laser equipment.
- Recommended standard GB/T 47399—2026 “Test method for antibacterial activity of sanitary wares — Luminescence method” covers the test principle, reagents and media, equipment, test strains, sample preparation, test procedure, calculation of results and the test report. It was issued on 31 March 2026 and is administered by TC249 on building and sanitary ceramics; product quality testing institutes are among the main drafters.
- Also mandatory are GB 12801—2025 on basic safety requirements for production processes (including fire and explosion protection and protection against dust and toxic substances) and GB 17750—2025 on dip coating safety (equipment, ventilation and exhaust gas treatment, coating storage).
- Recommended standard GB/T 33833—2026 on urban heating services requires at least 18°C in homes and offices, 22°C in care homes for the elderly and 20°C in nurseries and kindergartens. Other standards taking effect include the guide GB/T 47393—2026 on directional recycling of chemicals from waste lithium batteries.
