CNAS after the move to ISO/IEC 17020:2026: 10 guides and a technical report for inspection bodies apply at once, 19 field-specific application notes from 1 January 2027
On 30 September 2026 the China National Accreditation Service (CNAS) published two letters of 23 September (Nos. 72 and 73 of 2026) on new editions of 30 documents for inspection bodies. They follow from criterion CNAS-CI01:2026, issued on 26 June 2026 and identical to ISO/IEC 17020:2026.
- Letter No. 72: ten accreditation guides apply from publication and the old editions ceased to apply at once. They are the general guide CNAS-GI001:2026 and guides for: energy efficiency of industrial boilers in service (GI002), failure analysis of pressure vessels (GI003), joint commissioning tests of high-speed railways (GI004), equipment supervision (GI005), independent safety assessment of rail transit communications and signalling and of rolling stock (GI008, GI009), construction works (GI010), atmospheric storage tanks and tank-truck tanks (GI011) and hydrogen storage and transport equipment (GI012).
- The same letter issued technical report CNAS-TRI-001:2026, a guide to safe working practice for inspection bodies; the previous edition also ceased to apply on publication.
- Letter No. 73: nineteen field-specific application notes to the criterion (CNAS-CI01-A001…A020:2026, without A004) apply from 1 January 2027 and are used together with CNAS-CI01:2026. They cover, among others, boilers, pressure vessels including gas cylinders and pressure piping, lifts and amusement devices, factory inspection, construction works, weighing of goods, vehicle safety, building fire protection, energy efficiency, sports venues, green buildings and cybersecurity classified-protection evaluation (CI01-A018 — a different document from the earlier CNAS-CL01-A018 for construction testing laboratories).
- The transition follows letter No. 42 of 2026 on introducing CNAS-CI01:2026; the previous editions of the 19 notes cease to apply on 1 April 2029. CNAS-CI01-A004:2018 for inspection of other factories is used only with criterion CNAS-CI01:2012 and also ceases to apply on 1 April 2029.
